| Survival of the fittest I love Ronseal. Why? Because their motto is ‘It does what it says on the can’. And I know from experience that it does exactly what it says on the can.
I was reading about Ryan Air and the plans they have made for the coming 12 months. The airline and holiday industry is in for a tough time with people tightening their belts. What do they do? They look to the market and realised that if people were going to travel they would be more inclined to use a no frills airline to save money. So they are looking to increase their offering to the public.
I was talking to a high street trader, Elaine of San Fairy Anne, and it was a comment made in passing that really got me thinking. What Elaine said was;
It is time for the survival of the fittest and those who care and serve.
I started to realise that those businesses that pull through these difficult times will not be those that sit about moaning and crying 'woe is me' and expecting a white knight government to come running to their aid. Those that will survive are the ones that stop and think about what they are doing, look to the market and see what customers need and then set about fulfilling that need. Service, service & more service. These will be the businesses that pull through in best shape.
As traders lets look to increase our service to customers and make their experience in our stores one they want to repeat and talk about.
As a consumer let’s look for good service and reward it with continued custom and tell all and sundry about exceptional service when we experience it.
This is a win/win scenario.
